- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 113 g diced yellow onion
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
- 60 g diced carrot
- 290 g diced potatoes
- 230 g chopped green cabbage
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup shelled red lentils
- 1.5 cups chicken stock

- heat a pot at medium heat, then coat bottom with 1 tbsp of olive oil. add yellow onion and saute for 5 minutes.
- add black pepper, cumin seeds, and turmeric powder.
- add carrot, potatoes, and green cabbage. mix well, lower heat, cover and cook for 5 to 7 minutes.
- mix in red lentils and chicken stock. mix well, and bring to a boil. lower heat to a simmer, cover, and cook for 10 minutes.
- season to taste with salt and serve over rice.
